A ‘NURSE’ who appeared in Danny Boyle’s London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony says it was the most exciting thing she has ever done.

Julie Darnell, who is a cardiac radiographer for her day job, performed to more than a billion people worldwide during an NHS tribute section in Friday’s show.

It came after more than 180 hours of rehearsals for the 46-year-old, of Nightingale Lane, Bickley, and the other NHS workers.

The mother of two said: “It was so exciting.

“It was the most exciting thing I have ever done.

“The crowd was so enthusiastic and people were just coming up to us and I felt like a celebrity, it was so amazing.

“It is something I will never forget.”

She added: “Danny Boyle was so lovely and came to the rehearsals and made a huge effort with the ordinary people like me and took his time to get to know us even though he didn’t need to.

“He was such an inspiring positive friendly person and gave every one of us a lovely book and certificate afterwards to remember it all and say thank you.

“There were between 800 and 900 volunteers in my NHS section of the show and I met some wonderful people.”
