A LACK of investment in Gravesend’s roads over 12 years of Labour government were a “major factor” in the deterioration which led to a 20-feet deep hole opening up in the town centre, according to the county’s highways boss.
A deep pot hole the size of a dustbin lid appeared in Clive Road on Thursday, July 12, bringing traffic madness with it.
The road was closed at around midday as Kent County Council’s engineers repaired the surface and re-opened it at around 4pm.
Inspecting the fix, KCC’s cabinet member for Highways, Councillor Bryan Sweetland said: “The problem is the increase in the amount of traffic using Clive Road.”
He added: “Another major factor has also been a complete lack of investment in local roads over the last twelve years by the last government. They simply forgot about Gravesend.”
Cllr Sweetland said KCC will spend an additional £6million on resurfacing and improving local roads in Gravesend and other parts of Kent.
