Horniman Museum's Olympic-themed events
AS THE Olympic torch shines through Lewisham, a museum will be reflecting Games spirit too.
Families can see the champions of the animal kingdom and design their own torch as part of events at the Horniman Museum and Gardens on July 23.
Visitors can learn about animal adaptations which help them race or jump high at the family-orientated sessions.
Artists will also create a podium of balloons with visitors’ sporting memories written across them.
The museum was voted as the most iconic landmark in Lewisham by residents for the Olympic Landmark London competition.
Director of Horniman Museum Janet Vitmayer said: “We are delighted that the Horniman has been able to play a part in London’s Cultural Olympiad, from being selected by Lewisham residents to represent the Borough, through to The Body Adorned exhibition and The Big Dance Picnic held recently in the museum’s gardens.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Museum and Gardens throughout the summer, in what will be a very exciting and proud moment for Londoners.”
