Firefighters tackle tyre fire and car alight in Gravesend overnight
A FLAMING pile of tyres was the first job in the Denton area of Gravesend for firefighters last night (June 28).
The crews were called to Deering Way, off Rochester Road, at about 9.30pm and found a pile of around 50 tyres which had been dumped and set on fire.
They spent around two hours at the scene and while on their way back to Thames-side fire station were called to a Volvo on fire in Rochester Road.
The old car’s engine had overheated and caught fire while the driver was driving home and he managed to get out and call 999.
Firefighters stopped the flames from spreading but the vehicle is said to be heavily smoke logged so thought to be a write off.
They were at the scene for around 30 minutes.
