'Dangerous' mugger jailed following Hither Green robberies

A "DANGEROUS" mugger has been jailed for five years and nine months following robberies in the Hither Green area last year.

Omar Brown, a 23-year-old labourer, of Torridon Road, Catford, has been locked up after pleading guilty at Woolwich Crown Court to two robberies.

In the most alarming incident, a 27-year-old man was threatened with a knife on November 2 at around 8.15pm just after he left Hither Green train station.

He was walking along Brightside Road when he was approached from behind by Brown, who grabbed his neck, covered his mouth and held a blade against the side of his neck.

The victim pleaded with the mugger after he was dragged on to the floor and threatened yet again with the knife as he went to hand over his phone.

Brown eventually grabbed the phone along with his victim's wallet before searching him and making off with his bag.

After the attack, police noticed Brown acting suspiciously, hurling a bag at one of the officers leaving him with a bruise to his face before fleeing.

At the thief's home they found property taken from a previous robbery on November 1, when another man was threatened with a knife after leaving the station.

Detective Constable Kevin Hawkes from Lewisham CID: "Brown was clearly a very dangerous individual who held little regard for the safety of others in order for his own needs to be met.

"He refused to accept responsibility for his actions or show the slightest bit of remorse for the ordeal suffered by his victims and waited until the day of trial to enter a guilty plea."

THis goverment need to start a new penal system like the glass house regime were tou gh members of staff are waiting in reception to meet these street thugs and to knock the smirk and cockiness out of them with a 5 year term he would wish he was never born let a lone start to rob poeple minding there own busness we didnt fight 2 world war to see thes e kind of thugs operating.Thank you.

...oh hello 'war hero' well said... and what a paltry sentence!! i mean, come on - he'll be cooking with gordon ramsey on t.v. and boasting it's easier to steal than go out and earn a living like decent, honest, folk have to do... one would have thought a double-figure sentence would have been correct in this case.

That's the annual cost to the taxpayer, in prison fees.

Well, at least we can trust our fantastic rehabilitation schemes within the prison system. They are second to none, of course

thats ok god will forgive him, so will we, you can have 5 years bed and breakfast tv radio and walking exercise and a flat when you come out and paid work.
