Mum's call to find 'angel' who helped in car accident

THE mother of a six-year-old girl who was left in a coma following a car crash is appealing to find the "angel" who helped her towards recovery.

Michelle Hart of Riverdale Road, Erith says she would not have got through the ordeal without the help of the mystery Good Samaritan.

Her daughter Tyla went into a coma while her 54-year-old mother Therefa suffered a broken foot in the crash which happened in Northend Road, Erith on April 19.

The 27-year-old said: "We were in the car with my mum in the slow lane.

"The car in front went through a blocked drain and a puddle splashed up over our windscreen.

"My mum braked but the lorry behind crashed into her little Honda and it was crushed.

"My little girl was like a rag doll and my mum was knocked out."

Miss Hart says she tried to get her daughter out from the back seat.

She said: "There was a man at the scene when I got my little girl out - her eyes were rolling into the back of her head.

"He was preaching over her- he was an angel who came out of nowhere and kept me focused.

"I’m not really a religious person but he kept the faith there and the love."

Tyla was airlifted to London’s Royal Infirmary before being taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital where she remained in a coma with head injuries for a week.

Miss Hart said: "Doctors didn’t know whether she would walk or talk again.

"I had all the scares that she might be disabled- her brain was bruised.

"She was dribbling and she couldn’t put her hands together."

But Tyla surprised doctors by making a fast recovery and after a stint of rehab, is now back at home.

Miss Hart said: "She needs a little bit of help here and there, but doctors say she has done really well."

On July 6, the family is holding a fundraising day at the Great Harry pub in Parsonage Manorway, Belvedere in aid of the hospital.

Miss Hart said: "I really just want to find the man who helped us now.

"If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been able to get through it.

"I’m hoping he was local."

The man is described as black, between 35 and 40 years old and of medium build.

The 45-year-old driver of the lorry, who came from the Tyne and Wear area, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless driving.

He was later bailed until June, and no further action has been taken.
