WORRIED neighbours called the police after spotting a 60-year-old electrical engineer lying on the floor of his home.
After breaking in on June 9, police discovered Anthony Ainslie, who had been dead for some time.
At an inquest at Croydon Coroner's Court on October 17, an open verdict was recorded into his death.
This was after pathologist Adam Coumbe told the inquest the body was too decomposed for him to decide on the cause of death.
A doctor's report stated Mr Ainslie, of Court Road, Orpington, had suffered from depression for several years and was known to be a drinker.
PC Rachel Ingram said Mr Ainslie's home was in a state of disrepair.
Coroner Dr Roy Palmer said: "We don't know whether he had drunk to excess or whether he had taken too many pills."
