ELABORATE floral arrangements filled a hall as part of Hayes Free Church’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

Taking the theme of verses from hymns as their starting point the 15 displays at the church all took the design in different directions.

Some used a lot of flowers while others just had a few stems but the show organiser Mavis Rignini says they were all beautiful and appreciated by the visitors to the church in Pickhurst Lane, Hayes.

The church elder said: “It was lovely.

“The arrangements were all beautiful and there was a real variety.”

Hayes (Kent) Free Church came into being in June 1937 and then moved to its present site where services were held in the Lodge of the Pickhurst Estate.

The Lodge was replaced by a pre-fabricated building until the halls were built and the church was completed in 1957.

It became known as Hayes Free Church (United Reformed) in 1972.
