DARTFORD rapping duo Divvy Dad and Charlie chYps have proudly presented their £10,000 cash prize to the EllenorLions Hospice.

Father and son Tony Saunders, 44, and Charlie, seven, recorded a rap in memory of their young brother and son, Oscar, who died from a rare cancer last year just before his third birthday.

The Saunders, of Fleet Avenue in Dartford, racked up a total of 6,905 votes – nearly 1,500 ahead of second place – in an online voting competition, organised by Findaproperty.com.

Their cause attracted attention on Twitter from celebrities including comedian Russell Brand, Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and TV presenters Nadia Sawalha and Lorraine Kelly.

The huge cash sum will now be used by chYps, the children’s charity which treated Oscar before he died.

Tony said: “Losing Oscar was an incredibly traumatic experience, but without chYps it would have been a hell of a lot more traumatic.

“I kept saying to Charlie, if we get to number one we’re really lucky, but at least we’re doing it for the right reasons.”

Chyps’ head of care Tracie Dempster said: “Winning this £10,000 is absolutely amazing and will support the chYps service in so many ways.

“Much of our service is funded through charitable donations and core services that each family needs, such as specialist nurses that deliver cancer support and chemotherapy rely heavily on monies from the public.”

ChYps, a part of EllenorLions Hospice, cares for more than 100 young people in their homes across Kent.
