BIG-hearted traders from Royal Parade, Chislehurst, turned their Jubilee celebrations into a fund-raising bonanza for the Freddie Farmer Foundation.

Their 16-prize raffle raised £1,054 for the foundation.

“Traders along the Parade had a meeting to discuss what we wanted to do for the Queen’s Jubilee,” said Karen Simmons, who runs the ladies section at Porters clothing shop. “We decided on a raffle for charity and one of the traders knew Freddie’s family.

“We asked traders if they would like to donate a prize and we received 16 in total, including a £100 voucher from Foreman & Beatty Jewellers, a £100 voucher from Royal Parade Dry Cleaners, and an overnight stay and dinner for two at The Bull’s Head Hotel.

“Freddie came to make the draw. He’s a wonderful little lad and they’re a lovely family.”

*Seven-year-old Freddie, who lives in New Eltham and goes to Montbelle primary school, was born at 28 weeks with cerebral palsy, weighing just 2lbs 12oz. The foundation was formed last year to raise £250,000 to set up a specialised physiotherapy centre in SE London for children with serious mobility problems. So far more than £90,000 has been raised.
