BIGGIN HILL Airport has welcomed three new firefighters fresh out of training school.
Vanessa Hopkins, 19, from Orpington; Peter Sambrook, 25, from Biggin Hill, and Mark Moore, 32, from Edenbridge, have been recruited following a six week course at the International Fire Training School in County Durham.
All three were awarded the CAA’s basic aviation firefighting qualification as airport firefighters.
They now join the 20-strong firefighting team based at the airport, which is trained to handle extra duties such as aircraft marshalling and baggage handling as well as aircraft de-icing and snow clearance during winter periods.
The senior airport fire officer who leads the team, Andy Mellers, said: "They now have the basic skills for the job, though plenty of training lies ahead of them."
