PEOPLE are being urged to give blood as part of a campaign to boost supplies before the summer’s major events.

NHS Kent and Medway say voluntary donations can fall in the run up to national events such as the Olympics and music festivals.

A campaign has therefore been launched by NHS Blood and Transplant to increase blood stocks by 30 per cent above usual levels.

Co-medical director at NHS Kent and Medway, Dr Robert Stewart said: “We know that even regular donors can miss appointments when distracted by national events and celebrations.

“With an increase in the number of visitors to the UK, it’s important that people still give blood, and don’t forget their appointments in the excitement of the European Football Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games and music festivals.”
