MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford David Evennett has launched a manufacturing competition for schools.

Mr Evennett has written to headteachers of secondary schools in his constituency inviting pupils to enter the We Made It! competition, to help them understand how exciting and rewarding a career in manufacturing could be.

Pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11 are encouraged to submit designs and ideas for a gadget, gizmo, toy or tool they would like to see made.

The winner will be entered into a nationwide competition where the best entries will get to see their designs come to life.

Mr Evennett said "I am delighted to be supporting this competition, and the campaign to raise awareness of careers in manufacturing.

"Britain is still a beacon for this industry and needs more young people to aspire to careers in it."

The deadline for entries is July 24.
