MP FOR Bexleyheath and Crayford David Evennett is calling for Bexley residents to be included in a discount scheme on the Dartford Crossing.
It follows an announcement by the Department for Transport yesterday (May 22) that toll charges will increase on the crossing by 50p in October 2012.
Cash charges for car users will go up from £1.50 to £2, from £2 to £2.50 for lorries and from £3.70 to £5.00 for heavy goods vehicles. Mr Evennett said: “Bexley residents should not have to pay any more to use the Dartford Crossing.
“I believe that my constituents should be eligible for the local discount scheme and I have again written to the Department for Transport about this matter.”
The department says funding from the charge increase will help to pay for free-flow electronic charging to ease congestion.
Motorists will then see a further 50p increase in October 2014 when the free-flow charging is expected to be introduced.
