BEXLEY Council will be consulting people with learning disabilities and their carers on the future of the services it provides.
The council plans to extend its current contract with not-for-profit organisation, mcch society ltd, to provide learning disability services in the borough until May 31 2014 - saving £2.8m.
Once this has been confirmed, the council intends to hold a six month consultation involving service users, carers and other stakeholders.
They will be asked what services they use, what they would like in the future and how services should be delivered.
The council's cabinet member for adults' services, Councillor Chris Taylor, said: "We want to offer service users and their carers more choice and control over the services they receive, which means taking the time to listen carefully to their views and incorporating these into the process of putting the contract out to tender."
