A FATHER and son rap duo from Dartford are agonisingly close to winning £10,000 for a Northfleet charity – but they need your votes to secure the victory.

Tony and Charlie Saunders, aged 44 and seven, recorded a rap-video under the stage name ‘Divvy Dad and Charlie chYps’ to raise money for children’s charity chYps.

They entered the competition in March in memory of their son and brother, Oscar Saunders, who lost an 18-month battle with cancer last year.

The pair are hoping to win the cash to say thank you to the charity, who cared for Oscar before his death.

With just two weeks to go until the online vote closes on May 31, the duo currently tops the list of entries.

However, only 20 votes currently separate them from their closest rivals and it is looking like the vote will go down to the final day.

Communications officer at chYps Tessa Youens said: “We're so grateful to everyone who has voted but we still need your support.

"The £10,000 will make an enormous difference and will help us to provide world-leading hospice care to even more families in need.

"And most of all, we desperately want to win for little Charlie."

Tony, of Fleet Avenue, said: “As soon as Oscar was diagnosed, chYps were there for us.

“They enabled us to stay together as a family which meant Oscar could enjoy spending time with his brother Charlie and being at home.

“Our chYps nurse visited weekly and always made a fuss over Oscar.

“He was one hell of a kid - a little fighter with big spirit.”

The 35-second rap is about the difficulties faced by a dad trying to buy a new home for his family.

ChYps, a part of EllenorLions Hospice, cares for more than 100 young people in their homes across Kent.
