A HEXTABLE parish councillor has been elected as the new chairman of Sevenoaks District Council.

Councillor Dee Morris, of Hextable, was elected at the full council meeting last night (May 15).

Previously vice-chairman of the council, she takes over from Councillor Bob Orridge at the helm.

The mother-of-one said: “We’re the only district in Kent to host the London 2012 games and in the coming months we will welcome many visitors, many of whom are coming for the first time.

“Not only will I do my best to raise our profile inside and outside the district but I will do all I can to promote the games and its legacy.”

Cllr Morris, who runs a property development company, has lived in Hextable since 1997 with her husband of 35-years Ray.

Her first position as a councillor came in 2003 when she was elected as a Hextable parish councillor.

Ash and New Ash Green ward Councillor Alan Pett was elected as the district council’s vice-chairman at the same meeting.
