Zip it: What did Prince Philip say to lady in red?
10:56am Wednesday 16th May 2012 in News
As people respectfully stood in line for their opportunity to meet the Queen and her husband in Bromley yesterday, one lady may not have considered the reaction her choice of outfit would cause.
As he approached the attractive blonde, Prince Philip said: “I would get arrested if I unzipped that dress.”
And News Shopper reader Pam Shaw got in touch to tell us about her elderly mother’s brief exchange with the Duke of Edinburgh.
Having waited in the cold for some time Mrs Shaw’s mum, Barbara Dubery from Beckenham, was offered a foil blanket by a member of council staff.
As he passed by, Prince Philip spotted Mrs Dubery, who will be 90 on Saturday (May 19), and said: “Are they going to put you in the oven next?”
No offence was taken though as Mrs Shaw said the remark “made her day”.
Prince Philip’s gaffes
Some of the things the Duke of Edinburgh is reported to have said over the years that have hit the headlines.
To a driving instructor in Scotland: “How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?”
To Elton John after hearing Elton had sold his Gold Aston Martin: “Oh, it’s you that owns that ghastly car – we often see it when driving to Windsor Castle.”
On the London Traffic Debate: “The problem with London is the tourists. They cause the congestion. If we could just stop tourism, we could stop the congestion.”
To the President of Nigeria, dressed in traditional robes: “You look like you’re ready for bed.”
To the matron of a hospital in the Caribbean: “You have mosquitoes. I have the Press.”

Additionally, as a blonde myself, I take offence to your combination of 'blonde' and 'bimbo'. It was very inappropriate for Philip to have said this to the woman. Shouldn't you be targeting him with your malicious comments? No, of course not. He's a man therefore he must be a 'silly old fool' and she must be something much worse, a 'bimbo'. Your sexist remarks are disgusting.

Why do you think I care ?
I think ( if its OK with you ) this young lady was inappropriately dressed for the occasion of perhaps meeting the Queen.
A little decorum please, there's a time and place for dressing like that. Chavness that's wot it is, in front of 'er Maj' too.

You sit there on your computer being a keyboard warrior with your childish comments towards a woman just for what she is wearing. Is this what our community has come to with judging innocent young women who actually put their time & effort into making the day a success? There is more to a person than what they choose to wear & feel comfortable in.
Carry on hiding behind your computer & I will have great enjoyment knowing my 6 year old daughter acts & behaves more grown up than youself.
Well done to everyone that took part helping Bromley with the day

I knew you would pipe up!!! Cant think of anything yourself so just copy & paste. Low life scum who have nothing constructive to say & slate innocent people helping the community. Just goes to show your just as bad as him as your the idiots that give Bromley a bad name. I really feel sorry for your 6 year old son as what a great role model you are to him. The future is looking bright for Bromley. NOT!!!!!
Low life scum - Sticks and stones. Did your 6 year old help you with that?
So point out where I slated innocent people helping the community? What has peoples criminal background got to do with helping the community? I take it you completed a criminal background check on everyone. Just that your statement about innocent people could be very wrong.
You see I will fight for everyone's right to have an opinion and voice it. But you throw your toys out the pram at some words on a screen that you don't like. Now who's the child ?

Its only MY opinion sonny but I feel this young ladies dress was inappropriate for the occasion. If that offends you or this attention seeker in red, hard luck.
I'm starting to ask myself what's your angle in defending this young woman attire, what are you after Anthony ? I'm sure if you ask she would tell you where she purchased it.
Littlewoods is where most Chavinas shop.

You must be such an expert in clothing & how people should dress. The simple fact is, your a complete joke & waste of space to Bromley with your embarrassing comments towards other women. ENOUGH SAID. What a true bellend you are to the borough of Bromley. Congratulations!!!!

At least your not a cave man.
If you saw a lady dressed like that in a restaurant and a comment like that was made im sure there would be a lot of people with something to say.
It doesnt matter what you wear as long as your polite and friendly.
The lady is hardly wearing a mini skirt and a boob tube.
Not that i agreed with the all the road closures etc due to her visit.
BUT why does everything have to turn personal on here.

I had to attend a friends funeral a while back and to be honest I was shocked at how some young people dressed for the occasion. Now I'm about 10 years younger than Ron, but I have to admit I raised my eyebrows at a few young ladies dress for a funeral. Times have changed and what's seen as OK today would have been seen as wrong in yesteryear, and for some people who grew up then.

People are calling her a blonde bimbo. But according to the Daily Mail she is a graduate from the London School of Economics. bim·bo Noun: derogatory. An attractive but empty-headed young woman, esp. I can't see how a graduate from a Russell Group University is a Bimbo.

I was at this event and as far as I could see no one else was dressed like this young woman. She could of worn a LBD and been less conspicuous out of respect for the Queen. That of course would not of achieved the attention this bim-- girl was seeking now would it.
It was raining too lets not forget.

I'm sure you agree in Freedom of Speech for things that you agree with. But like to shout down other's those opinions differ to yours.
Irony is lost on you in a big big way. You're one of the biggest hypocrites I have ever had the misfortune to read comments from. You say you have virtues, moral and principles. Yet with every comment proved that they mean nothing. For example ........ " I was raised the CORRECT way that if you have something bad to say about someone then keep it to yourself." You then start name calling in your other posts. You're a fail !
Do you really think in you pink fluffy bubble that a few bad words (in your opinion) in some small corner of the internet will some how disable Bromley and bring it crashing down ?
I don't like the idea of someone telling others what they can and can't say, what opinions they can and can't hold. Whether I agree or disagree with someone's view on a matter, I believe they have the same right to hold that view as I do.
