TWO years on and a bereaved mum wants action rather than words over her son's murder - one of five unsolved slayings in recent years on the same estate.

Nathan Allen, 21, was shot dead at 9.09pm on May 3 2010 in Ludwick Mews, New Cross, but despite a £20,000 reward offered by police and an appeal by his mum on the one-year anniversary, no one has been charged.

The former Deptford Green pupil's murder came less than a year after Nathan Williams, 24, was shot dead in the very same road. The Woodpecker estate has seen another three unsolved killings since 2005.

Mum Loretta said: "This year my sister and I could not face going down on to the estate because no one wants to speak up.

"It's two years now and I'm fed up with hugs and hearing RIP, missing you and you're in a better place. I want action.

"My son, as far as I'm concerned, is not in a better place. How can 6ft under be better than having a nice bedroom with your mum keeping it nice and tidy?

"How can never seeing me or his family be a better place?"

Superbike fan Mr Allen had studied carpentry and motorcycle engineering at Lambeth College and was about to start work with his cousin at a garage before his murder.

Ms Allen, 51, said: "My son was the most kind hearted, thoughtful person.

"He would always write me special messages in birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas cards - this is what I miss. I miss his smile, his face, his voice and his laughter."

The district nurse added: "The loss of Nathan is a living hell. There are days when it is so unbelievable and unbearable.

"I fill my days mainly with work and visiting his grave.

"What helps me in my grief is that I know my son knew I loved him with every breath in my body and I knew he loved me."

Appealing for information, Acting Detective Chief Inspector Brian Lucas said: "Trident (set up to tackle gang violence and shootings) has extensive experience and knowledge of protecting witnesses and a range of measures can be used to protect you if necessary."

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8247 4554 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Ghetto" Estate

After his death, Mr Allen was named in tributes as being part of the Ghetto Boys gang, christened after the Woodpecker's nickname the Ghetto Estate.

But Ms Allen said: "Any boy who lived on the estate would be called a Ghetto Boy."

Her son had already been shot the previous February which led to the family moving off the estate - but he still had a girlfriend there he would visit.

Ms Allen said: "I know people will think because Nathan was shot back in 2009 and again in 2010 that he must have been some gang member.

"Well the police have told me nothing of this sort. The mistake Nathan made was to hang around in the wrong crowd."
