A crazy, colourful pack of wild chicks and one “rockin’ rooster” are giving new meaning to The Jungle Book with their outrageous stage show.

When Evie Moran and her sister Annie were just 14 and 15 they borrowed money for DJ decks and extravagant costumes from their parents and began Funky Chicks.

Twelve years later, the group runs several successful stage academies for kids, boasts an impressive celebrity client list including Kate Moss and Helena Bonham Carter and is even about to get its own TV show.

The Jungle Funk is an original stage production being put on at The Broadway Theatre, Catford on May 12 to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the children.

Evie, aka Wild Chick, told Vibe: “We put on a show every two years, this is the third one.

“We’ve put our own twist on The Jungle Book and instead of Mowgli we have Ghetto Mowgli who’s a little rascal and speaks like he’s from the streets.

“The talent is amazing.

“You have to see it to believe it.

“There’s a family called the Von Baps instead of Von Trapps from Sound of Music and there’s a grandma who has seven grandchildren who are all really individual.

“They take a camper van break down in the jungle and they get lost and fall into the story of The Jungle Book, looking for the man land called Chislehurst Village.”

The show, which features children from Funky Chicks schools in Chislehurst, Sidcup, Croydon, Beckenham and Sevenoaks, features witty and fabulously entertaining all-new material.

Fathers of the stars will also be performing their Famous Dad’s Dance to raise money for charity 999 Club.

Evie believes there is nothing like Funky Chicks out there, which is why TV company Endemol (who make Big Brother) wants to create a show about them which would be similar to Glee.

She added: “We wear these crazy outfits and everyone’s like ‘whoa’ – no-one’s ever seen anything like it before.

“A different chick runs each school and we each have our own identities.

“I’m Wild Chick because everything I do makes me wild – my whole life is wild and I wear a lot of animal print.

“My hair is a bit crazy, big and curly and I’m always up to mischief.

“Annie is Super Hero Chick and there’s also Princess Chick, Divine Chick and Rock Chick.”

Stars including Jonathan Ross, Kelly Osbourne, Ian Wright and Stella McCartney, have asked the group to DJ and dance at parties, performing to music written by the chicks.

Evie describes their music as funky R and B pop.

She said: “We’re definitely unique, there’s nothing on our tail because it’s such hard slog.

“But it’s so rewarding seeing how happy it makes children and the fun they are having.

“They enjoy it so much and they’re always achieving and becoming more and more talented.

“It gives them something positive to aspire to.”
