THE GIRLFRIEND of a Gravesend man jailed in 2010 has been told she will be locked up for her involvement in his prison drug-smuggling scheme.

News Shopper reported in December 2010 how 29-year-old Daniel Burgess, of Goodwood Crescent, was jailed for two years following his involvement in a robbery at an Esso service station in Greenhithe.

During his term at Elmley prison in Sheppey, he conspired along with girlfriend Amie Lynn and fellow inmate Roy Sinclair, to smuggle drugs inside the jail.

Burgess pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cannabis and anabolic steroids as well as converting criminal property.

The court heard how police monitored phone calls between Burgess and Lynn from January 2010, hearing how the pair spoke in code about the supplying of drugs.

Prosecutor Donna East told the court: "During these many calls to Lynn, Burgess requested amounts to be transferred between various bank accounts.

"The amounts were referred to as multiples in pence rather than pounds, for example, £50 was referred to as 50 pence."

Police say more than £22,000 was paid into accounts between February 2010 and Lynn’s arrest.

When questioned by police, Burgess denied involvement in the supply of drugs, claiming the money being transferred was the proceeds of his work in the prison canteen.

Lynn was also charged with dealing drugs on the street after being arrested in June 2010 for dealing cocaine in the car park of the Premier Inn in Gravesend.

A later search of her home found 96 anabolic steroid tablets and £700 in a drawer.

She telephoned Burgess the day after her arrest, telling him police had been to their home.

He warned her to stop dealing but she refused, saying she needed the money and would have £15,000 to spend on a car by the time Burgess was released from prison.

On sentencing Sinclair, Judge Philip Statman said: "You must understand at the heart of this case is the fact that if cannabis gets into prison, good order within the prison is threatened.

"Cannabis is its own currency inside."

Speaking to Lynn, he warned: "These are very grave allegations.

"I’m going to have to send you to prison.

"Put your personal affairs in order and prepare yourself for the inevitable in June."

Lynn, 22, of West Wickham, admitted conspiring to supply anabolic steroids and converting criminal property, as well as an additional charge of conspiring to supply cocaine.

Sinclair, 33, of Kidbrooke, pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cannabis and was jailed for four months at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday (April 20).

Burgess and Lynn will be sentenced at the same court on June 21.
