A MUSEUM has been granted an extension to its licence but must compromise after scores of people objected to the plans.

As News Shopper reported this week, Forest Hill's Horniman Museum wanted to hold events with a maximum capacity of 15,000 and sell alcohol up to 11.30pm.

The plans provoked indignation from people living nearby, with memories of a jerk chicken festival in 2009 when 20,000 people turned up still fresh in their minds.

Last week, the museum's plans were approved by a Lewisham Council licensing committee, but with amendments.

Alterations to the museum's plans included having a maximum capacity of 10,000, with the number of large events held limited to 10 per year and closing time by 9pm.
