AN ORPINGTON MAN has died after being electrocuted on train tracks at Chelsfield Station.

Emergency services attended the incident which happened at 5.03pm yesterday.

A 35-year-old man was found on the tracks.

Network Rail had to switch of the electricity on the lines, causing disruption to trains.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that BTP officers attended Chelsfield rail station in Kent on Thursday, 26 April following a report of a man’s body on the tracks.

“Officers from Kent Police also attended the incident which was reported to BTP at 5.03pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“The man is believed to have trespassed onto the tracks and was electrocuted by the live rail, he was not hit by a train.

“Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but the man, believed to be 35 and from Orpington was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will now be prepared for the coroner.”

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 17.59pm. Train services were resumed at 6.22pm.

British Transport Police are investigating the incident which is being treated as non-suspicious.
