TIME is running out for people to apply for Bromley Council’s trial garden waste collection scheme.

For just over a pound a week, residents can get their garden waste collected directly from their home, without having to book a collection time.

Gardeners using the service simply place their garden waste straight into the provided wheelie-bin in contrast to the current £1.60 per bag sticker collection scheme.

Residents who have already expressed an interest will be contacted once the scheme has been embedded in trial areas and it is only at this stage that payment will be taken.

The trial is running in a number of areas across the borough involving different property types.

The £60 annual fee includes the cost of a wheelie-bin which stores up to the equivalent of 4 full bags of garden waste, ready for collection.

Collections take place fortnightly during the gardening season and once a month over the winter period.

Portfolio holder for the environment Councillor Colin Smith said: “This new value for money, convenient collection service poses a substantial logistical challenge and we are currently working hard to embed it in the trial areas.

“To help us get this right, we are keen to hear from you whether you live in one of the pilot areas or elsewhere in the borough where you can still express your interest in the scheme.

“We believe the new service offers residents increased choice and improved value for money as to how best dispose of their garden waste.”

Go to bromley.gov.uk/wastenews or call 020 8313 4557 to express your interest in the collection scheme.

The deadline for applications is tomorrow (April 27).
