JUST when Greenhithe residents thought proposals for a new marina had finally been sunk, news of brand new plans have surfaced.

News Shopper can reveal that project planner Greenhithe Marina Management LLP (GMMLLP) is once again plotting to build a marina complex in Greenhithe High Street despite previous attempts being overwhelmingly rejected by both residents and councillors.

A message posted on The Greenhithe Marina Residents Association Blog, which supports the project, says: "Good news folks, new plans for a marina at Greenhithe are currently been drawn up.

"The applicant GMMLLP has appointed a new management team and they seem to be off to a flying start."

Only nine months ago the Planning Inspectorate rejected plans for a 200 berth marina with a fuel pontoon and clubhouse.

The application attracted dozens of letters of objection while campaigners also collected a 214-signature petition against the plans.

This came after Dartford Council had already rejected similar proposals in 2010 and 2008.

Secretary of Greenhithe Community Group, Tim Carrington, was among those who opposed the plans.

Mr Carrington, of Greenhithe High Street, said: "We are aware another Greenhithe Marina proposal may be surfacing.

"Since the last set of plans were rejected by the Planning Inspectorate in 2011 there has been a marked increase of vehicles chasing the limited unrestricted parking spaces available in Greenhithe due to new housing development.

"A 200 berth marina will only exacerbate an already overburdened village and we are sure Dartford’s councillors will again sensibly reject unanimously this new proposal as they did the previous two"

Kim Matthews, who owns the Pier Hotel pub in Greenhithe High Street, said: "There's a major parking problem now and it's just going to make it 100 times worse.

"We will lose customers because there will be physically no where to park at all.

"The access for the marina would be the narrowest road in Dartford."

She added: "There's so much more land further up overlooking the river.

"I don’t know why they can't go somewhere more appropriate."

Last month GMMLLP began a pre-planning application consultation with Swanscombe and Greenhithe residents.

News Shopper approached GMMLLP for more details on the plans.

However they refused to comment
