A DISABLED great-grandmother is calling for a change to the law after her kitten was killed by an "out of control dog".

Brigit Compton, 70, is angry after her kitten was killed by two German shepherd dogs which attacked it while it was playing in her garden in Calverley Close, Beckenham.

Because the attack took place on private land there is nothing police can do. She said: "I think the law should be changed.

"After this I most certainly support News Shopper's campaign.

"He should have had control of his dogs and if they're going to be like that then they should be muzzled.

"All I can say is thank God it wasn't a child."

The pensioner, who suffers from chronic arthritis, had been looking after 10-month-old Jessica since her son rescued her from being drowned soon after birth.

She says she thinks the dogs came through the woods next to Beckenham Place golf course.

She added: "It was horrible, absolutely sickening. I have to keep busy so I don't have time to think about it.

"They came bounding through the grounds and came into the garden. I was screaming at it to let her go and I threw a mug at it.

"It just dropped her and she fell to the floor. I think it must have broken her neck or she died of shock.

"We rushed her down to the vets but he said she was gone. At least she was in my arms when she died.

"The whole situation has traumatised me badly and I’m having trouble sleeping at night because I’m reliving the whole scenario."

Bromley Police confirmed they were called to the scene at 10.51am on April 15 but said there was no trace of the dogs or owner on the scene.

The Copers Cope Safer Neighbourhood Team has been made aware of the incident after other neighbours also complained about animals coming through the area from the woods.

News Shopper is calling for danger dog legislation to be extended to include dog attacks on private land - therefore protecting workers such as postmen and social carers.
