She hugged Simon Cowell and had Alesha Dixon dancing on her feet. Reporter ALAN WOODS meets Gravesend’s very own Confidence Queen.

STAR-in-the-making Genny Jones, who lives in St Mark’s Avenue, has certainly made a name for herself on ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent.

Sporting a pair of over-sized heart-shaped sunglasses, bright red trousers and stylish yellow arm-warmers, she performed her Confidence Queen routine before encouraging the judges and crowd to sing ‘If you’re happy and you know it’ with her.

With votes of approval from all three celebrity judges, Mrs Jones is well on her way to the next round of the competition and is looking ahead at the possibility of performing in the show's live semi-finals.

The 50-year-old said: “To even meet Simon and for the judges to say all the nice words about me was just like 'wow'.

“It felt like winning already because they have said such wonderful things to me.”

Using stage name The Confidence Queen, Mrs Jones says the message behind her song is to inspire everyone to be happy and confident in life.

Auditioning on stage in Cardiff earlier this year, Mrs Jones was the last act to perform on the day.

The mother-of-two said: “There were about 2,000 people in front of me.

“I was really shaking.

“Ant and Dec kept laughing and telling me I’m the Confidence Queen so I shouldn’t be nervous but I kept singing and telling myself that I’m confident.”

Following her performance, Mrs Jones jokingly offered Simon the chance to become her Confidence King.

With the audience and judges in hysterics, comedian David Walliams lead her from the stage to meet her idol, offering her the once in a lifetime opportunity to smell music mogul Simon Cowell.

She added: “I don’t know how Simon felt when I asked him but I sense there is a connection between me and him.

“He comes across as this very hard person but I just felt he is a soft person deep down.”

With three resounding ‘yes’ votes from the judges, Mrs Jones was whisked through to the next elimination round of the competition where the acts will be reviewed.

She is unable to say how far she gets in the competition at this stage.

The next round of the show is expected to be broadcast later this month.

Judges reactions

Simon Cowell: Occasionally I go slightly nuts because I am also going to say yes and I don’t know why.

David Walliams: You know, what you have brought here today is actually a spirit, a sense of hope, a sense of happiness and a sense of confidence.

Alesha Dixon: Genny you have lightened up my day, it’s a yes from me.

Song lyrics

I try to sing, I try to dance, I try to make you have a laugh.

Confidence Queen, that’s who I am. Listen to me, listen to me.

Everybody listen to me. Every day just be confident.

When you wake up in the morning feel confident.

When you’re on Britain’s Got Talent feel confident.

If Simon says 'no' feel confident.

Feel confident, feel confident, every day feel confident.

Jump, jump, jump.
