AN Eltham woman has set up camp in her garden to accommodate Olympic revellers.

Natasha Corne of Arsenal Road read about Camp in my Garden, a website advertising private gardens as campsites, last year.

Having failed to get any tickets to the Games, the 36-year-old thought offering Olympic fans a piece of her garden would be the perfect way for her to get involved.

She has already bought an eight-man blue tent to house her guests, and also plans to set up a barbecue.

Ms Corne said: "Such a great thing has come to our borough and I couldn't get tickets, but I really wanted to be involved somehow."

She added that she has already got a family of four from Yorkshire booked to come and stay with her for the Equestrian events, which will take place three miles from her home, at Greenwich Park.

The healthcare worker said:"It's great because they've told me they want to cycle and it's perfect as I'm close enough.

"I wanted to give people the opportunity to get to know the community and to find out what Greenwich is really like.

"It also means extra income for the local economy as I can direct my guests to where the best places are to eat and drink."

When asked whether or not it would be safe to have complete strangers using her home, Ms Corne said she had not given it much thought until a neighbour mentioned it.

She said: "I am a trusting person and like to see the best in people. My sons think I’m mad, but have been very supportive and helped to put up the tent."

A night in Ms Corne's tent costs £15, and includes an English breakfast, use of the amenities in her house and use of her wifi.
