LEWISHAM borough's markets will be celebrated with two weeks of events.

Local Markets Fortnight runs from April 28 to May 12, encouraging visitors to sample organic pork from Independent Trotters in Lewisham, Lebanese-inspired street food delights from Mike and Ollie in Deptford or Polish blintzes at Brockley Market.

Meanwhile, Douglas Way's market sells anything from a vintage record player to a china tea set.

Among the upcoming events are a St George's food fair on April 22 from 10am to 4pm in Forest Hill.

Special markets will also be held at Catford on April 28 and 29, along with Lewisham on May 12.

Cabinet member for customer services Councillor Susan Wise, said: "In these difficult financial times, it is even more important for people to realise the huge benefit and affordability of shopping locally, and discovering for themselves, what lies on their doorsteps."
