Theatrical pensioners have embarked on a digital adventure of sound, film, drama and dance with elderly Brazilian counterparts.
People in their 70s and 80s from Lewisham and Southwark took part in a sold out launch event at The Albany in Deptford to celebrate a collaboration between London and Londrina, Brazil.
London-based Entelechy Arts and Casa das Fases from Brazil kicked off a two-year theatre project with older people, coming together over the net to create work inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
A Storm in a Teacup was the first in a trilogy of theatre events on April 3 which proved people are never too old to take on an exciting adventure.
Brazilian performers were projected onto screens on The Albany stage, making the event a truly transcontinental experience. David Slater, Entelechy’s Director, said: “There have been over 80 older people involved in the making of this event.
“We have worked with older people in their own front rooms, in residential care homes and in day centres.
“Video projections and sound recordings and a sea of giant jelly fish are being used to create magical landscapes inspired by Shakespeare’s play.
“It’s all part of a programme creating exciting new theatre made by some of our oldest citizens.”
The next show will take place in the autumn and a date is to be confirmed.
Entelechy Arts has been making art for 21 years and continues to develop programmes of work that promote cultural and social cohesion.
