LARGE shops will no longer be able to display tobacco products to the public.

A new law is being introduced from April 6 which spells the end of displaying tobacco and cigarettes.

It is part of a move to prevent young people starting to smoke and to help people who are trying to quit smoking.

Kent County Council's cabinet member for adult social care and public health, Councillor Graham Gibbens, said: "We know that the glossy displays of tobacco in shops are one way that tobacco is promoted to young smokers.

"By removing this, it reduces the prominence tobacco has in shops."
