A NETBALL club faces closure just days after being selected to represent the borough in the London Youth Games as MyTime Active closes its services in schools.

It is just one of the clubs which could close following the leisure trust's decision to stop providing sports coaches for after school clubs.

Schools were given just one week’s notice that the service would be discontinued after the Easter holiday.

St Nicholas C of E Primary School in Chislehurst uses MyTime coaches for its netball club and multi-skills sport club but headteacher John Paddington does not know whether they will be able to continue once the service stops.

He said: "I feel the way MyTime has dealt with the school’s club offer was appalling really. It’s not very much notice. It’s not the notice you would expect.

"We’re really hoping we can get something sorted but we can safely say when we restart on April 16 it will be without these clubs running. At the minute we’re in total limbo.

"From my point of view it’s wrong on several levels. This is an Olympic year and they’re supposed to be promoting a healthy lifestyle in schools. "

A MyTime Active spokesperson said: "The demand for our school sports service has dropped to a level where it’s simply not practical any longer for us to operate the service.

"When we started this service some years ago schools were crying out for quality assured sports coaching and often we were the only provider offering this level of safe and professional coaching.

"Now it is a very different with a wide variety of sports clubs and after school organisations who now offer equally professional services and a wide range of choice."

MyTime Active refused to comment on how many schools have been affected by the closure of the service.
