PRIME Minister David Cameron has raised the case of the UK/US extradition treaty with President Barack Obama.

This follows the case of Christopher Tappin, aged 65, from Orpington, who was last month extradited to the US over arms dealing allegations.

On a trip to the US, Mr Cameron said: "I raised [extradition] with President Obama and we had a good discussion. We will be following this up with further talks between our teams.

"We have carried out an independent review of the treaty which found that it was balanced, but I recognise that there are concerns about how it is implemented in practice and that’s what our teams will look at."

Orpington MP Jo Johnson said: "I am delighted for Chris Tappin’s family that the Prime Minister brought his case to the attention of the President. I also welcome the PM’s assurances that the government will review the treaty with the US authorities."
