LEWISHAM'S pools hope to make a big splash for charity with the world's biggest fundraising swim next month.

Downham, Ladywell, The Bridge and Wavelengths leisure centres are all taking part in the annual Swimathon - raising cash for charity Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.

The event is part of a national campaign where people can choose from 5km 2.5km or team 5km challenges.

Alternatively, participants can join in a mile-long swim for Sport Relief, either individually or as part of a team.

It all takes place from April 27 to April 29.

Swimathon president Duncan Goodhew said: "In our 25th anniversary year, we’d love to add to the half a million people who have taken part in the event over the years to dive into pools up and down the country."
