A DEVASTATED cat owner whose pet was killed by a staffordshire bull terrier has hit out at irresponsible dog owners.

Robbie Roberts, 60, says the dog which killed his cat Ziggy could attack a toddler next.

Ziggy, an 18 month old pedigree Burmilla cat, died after being attacked close to his home in Willow Walk, in Farnborough Recreation Ground.

Mr Roberts said: “It was brutal. His back was broken, his intestines were hanging out. I think he must have been shaken to death.

“It was awful. There are four of us in the family and we’re all devastated.

I didn’t stop crying for two days. When I told my son he just howled like a wounded animal and my daughter started weeping.

“All the neighbours are upset too, everyone was fond of him. He was great at keeping the mouse population down.

“I teach children and I had shown them pictures of him. Now I have to tell them he was murdered.”

“I have nothing against dogs. We live in a park and lots of people walk their dogs and most people do it responsibly.

“But this was really irresponsible of the dog owner. Who’s to say it wouldn’t hurt a toddler? “It should have been muzzled or something.”

Mr Roberts is now hoping to buy a kitten from Ziggy’s sister, who is due to give birth to a new litter soon.

He said: “We want Ziggy back but we can’t have him.

“This is the next best thing.”
