A FATHER and son Dartford rap duo known as ‘Divvy Dad and Charlie chYps’ are hoping to win £10,000 for charity.

Tony and Charlie Saunders, aged 44 and six, are entering a competition in memory of their son and brother, Oscar Saunders, who lost his 18-month battle with cancer last year.

The musical pair are hoping to win the cash for childcare charity chYps by entering the online Rap for a Cause competition, run by estate agent Find a Property.

Since Oscar’s death in July last year, the Saunders family pledged to raise money for chYps to say thank you for all the care and support they gave Oscar.

Tony, of Fleet Avenue, said: “As soon as Oscar was diagnosed, chYps was there for us.

“They enabled us to stay together as a family which meant Oscar could enjoy spending time with his brother Charlie and being at home.

“Our chYps nurse visited weekly and always made a fuss over Oscar.

“He was one hell of a kid - a little fighter with big spirit.”

The 35-second rap is about the difficulties faced by a dad trying to buy a new home for his family.

An online poll will decide the most popular entry to win the prize and the duo are currently in seventh place out of 45 entrants.

Tony added: “We had great fun recording it with the help of a monkey puppet, and Charlie loved wearing his cool shades.

“I really hope people will take a look at the rap and vote for us - it will mean a lot to us as a family and everyone at chYps.”

ChYps, a part of EllenorLions Hospice, cares for more than 100 young people in their homes across Kent.
