BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for information after a man’s wallet was stolen on a train between Woolwich Arsenal and Deptford.

Investigators have released CCTV images of two men they want to identify and talk to in connection with the incident, which took place just after 10pm on February 13.

Shortly after boarding the train at Woolwich Arsenal, the 22-year-old victim from Bristol was approached by two men who asked him about his possessions before trying to grab him.

The victim defended himself by pushing the men away, at which point one of the men suggested he had a knife by putting his hand up his top.

Undeterred, the victim moved to the next carriage but the men followed him and a scuffle broke out, with passengers intervening and coming to his aid.

The two suspects left the train at Deptford but a short while later the victim noticed his wallet was missing. It is thought to have been taken during the altercation.

Detective Sergeant Steve Maguire of BTP’s Robbery Squad said: "Incidents like this are fairly rare on the rail network, but we treat them very seriously.

Although the victim was unharmed, this was clearly a very intimidating ordeal for him, and one which has resulted in his wallet being taken.

"We are following a number of leads to try and identify the men responsible and want to hear from anyone with information about what took place, particularly if you were on the train at the time."

Anyone with information or who recognises the men should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B4/LSA of 06/03/12. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
