GENEROUS donations at a Fairtrade charity lunch in Gravesend raised £177 last week.
Held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Friday (March 2), the lunch offered a large range of Fairtrade treats to more than 60 hungry visitors, with the menu including flapjacks and muffins and an array of fruit.
The Mayor of Gravesham, Councillor Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, visited and helped the busy volunteers by serving customers their lunch.
Lunchstop organiser Judith Wenban said: “I thought the donations were great considering how many people are cash-strapped at the moment.
“The food was all donated from supermarkets and cafes and the cakes were homemade, so there were no expenses to claim at all.”
Donators pledged what they thought was a fair price for their lunch, bringing the total raised across two lunches to £370.
The money will be split between two Fairtrade charities, Tearfund and Traidcraft.
