HOTEL chain Travelodge will open a 104-bed building in the old Greenwich Industrial Estate.
Contracts have been exchanged for the hotel, part of a £100m redevelopment of the area, dubbed The Movement, which was given planning approval last April.
It will be the chain’s third branch in the borough, with one recently opened in Blackheath Road and another being developed in Woolwich.
The Movement, developed by Cathedral Group, is set to feature 181 homes, business space and 358 student apartments.
It will be built next to Greenwich’s DLR and mainline stations between Norman Road and Waller Ray.
Cathedral chief executive Richard Upton said: “The timing of this could not be better.
"Greenwich is to play a very important part in the Olympics this summer.
“Our site is right next to Greenwich DLR station and forms a gateway to the town centre.
“The fact that our scheme is underway sends an important message to visitors to the new royal borough that Greenwich is a place of change, major investment and vision for the future.”
The hotel is expected to open next summer.
