YOUNGSTERS have been busy litter picking on a street in Gravesend as part of a scheme to clean up neighbourhoods.

The eight young people from a youth club based in Milton Church Hall in Church Walk collected nine bags of rubbish on Raphael Road.

The clean up formed part of the My Place Matters scheme- an initiative run in partnership with Gravesham Council, Clean Kent, Kent County Council and Kent Fire and Rescue.

It aims to clear-up and improve the appearance of neighbourhoods and quality of life for people and encourage them to take pride in their communities.

Cabinet member for community and the environment, Councillor Andrea Webb said: "What these young people have achieved shows that a little effort goes a very long way.

"It’s admirable that these people gave up an afternoon of fun at half term to help make a difference to their community."
