BEXLEY schoolchildren look set to have helped break the Guinness World Record for the most people signing and singing a song simultaneously.

Youngsters from all over the country and overseas took part in the event, including pupils from Upton Primary School, Hurst Primary School and Pelham Primary School.

Children signed the song ‘sign2sing’, which was composed especially for the event.

The current record stands at 94,489 but it is believed more than 130,000 schoolchildren took part.

Guinness World Record will confirm if the record has been broken in around two months.

Cash raised from the sponsored event will go to SignHealth, which is the only UK charity focused on improving the mental and physical health and wellbeing of deaf people.

Chief executive at SignHealth, Steve Powell, said: "It has been a truly fantastic event and we’re extremely grateful for everyone who took part.

"We’re still counting the money raised but we’re hoping it will make a significant contribution to the work of the charity."
