Police want to trace this man Police want to trace this man

DETECTIVES are looking for a man in a distinctive wooly hat after more than £10,000 in cash was swiped from an Eltham bank customer.

On February 1at 4.15pm, the 51-year-old man entered Lloyds TSB in Eltham High Street carrying an orange plastic bag full of money.

As he placed the bag on the bank counter, another man pushed the victim to the floor, snatched the loot and fled.

Police now want to trace a man who was caught on CCTV.

He is described as white, around 6ft tall, in his late 20s, wearing a black and white hat, grey top with a hood and grey jogging bottoms.

The man also wore a black scarf and black gloves.

Detective David Ibbot from the Plumstead Robbery squad said: "We have reasons to believe that the suspect did not purposely follow the victim.

“He was already inside the bank where he seized his opportunity to steal the bag with the money.”

If you can help, call Plumstead police station on 020 8284 9449 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Obviously this guy's scum and I feel sorry for the 51 year old man. However, why did he have £10,000 in a plastic bag?

A white man robbing a white OAP. Well that's our argument shot down in flames. I'll have to mention this at Mottingham to the fat man.

I know this victim personally. Please do not be so quick to judge.
You don't know the full story.
The victim has suffered both physically and mentally since this happened. You really wouldn't want your worst enemy to go through it.

joyciebent, no disrespect meant - but taking £10,000 to the bank in a carrier bag? Surely he could have used something better.

This attack happened in the bank, but could have been in the street outside...

No problem.
But is there anything less conspicuous than a carrier bag!!!

There's no denying that it's very sad news indeed but what the devil was he doing with that much money in a bag and not in something more suitable.

Some friend or family member with him would have been much more sensible.
I assume the Police asked him these questions.

He's either been saving for a long time, has a shop or has sold something which amounted to £10000.

Theft is theft and i agree with joycibent that a carrier bag is less conspicuous than say a brief case. Who would expect someone carrying a tatty plastic bag to have 10k in it. It sounds like pure bad luck at the hands of an opportunist. What say ye?

Feel very sorry for the victim - I know I'd feel pretty sick if someone snatched a far, far smaller some of money than that from me.

I see lots of people in the bank bringing their business takings in carrier bags and unfortunately it's become so common now that unfortunately it looks more conspicuous than inconspicuous. Also some people do their banking on the same day/time each week and it wouldn't be difficult for someone to keep watch and just happen to be in the bank before the poor guy came in. Either way man in woolly hat is a total scumbag and I hope he gets caught.

You have less chance of being targeted for your carrier bag then if you was to carry it in the correct linen bags that most seem to use. You know the ones I mean

I have seen to many people walking down the high street carrying these types of bags (Usually green, red or yellow)
They stick out like a sore thumb and anyone carrying one is an instant target, I fear no-one is going to be brought to task over this. He looks like most of the residents of the Ramsden Estate or the youth of Eltham. They all seem to wear these silly hats
