DERMOT O'Leary has proved he has the X-Factor after topping a poll of the nation's women which asked them to name their top television Valentine.

The star, who is a regular fixture fronting the hit talent show, got 14 per cent of the vote in the search to find the small screen's most fanciable man.

He picked up more than twice the votes of his closest contender for the title, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who got six per cent, narrowly ahead of Strictly Come Dancing winner Harry Judd (5.4 per cent).

Holly Willoughby was clear winner in the search for the most fanciable female with 16 per cent of the vote.

Second place went to Karen Gillan (10 per cent) who plays Doctor's Who sidekick Amy Pond, while Caroline Flack came in just behind her (nine per cent).

Researchers spoke to 2,000 adults for the survey, which was carried out on behalf of digital TV company Freeview.

A spokeswoman for the firm said: "It's clear television presenters provide an extra reason to tune in and watch TV.

“And a candlelit dinner at home and watching a romantic film is the perfect Valentine's Day date - it's easier on the pocket than a trip out to the cinema or to a restaurant."
