Crime rates and particularly rates of violent crime began to climb after WW2 throughout England and Wales, murder and assault cases increased from 13 per 100,000 in 1950 to 144.3 per 100,000 in 1975.

I agree 'the wall', we even had the death penalty to try to curb the low lives back in the good old days.

In comparison to modern day Britain today crime was under control to a vast extent ; immigration to Britain has not helped ease crime figures anyone who suggests it has is mistaken.
Poverty in the post war era meant a lot of householders had very little in their houses to steal but there was more of a community spirit in those days and Britain was a much pleasant safer country than it is today manners have gone out of the window today so all in all I think Mr Pensioner was correct in his analyis of Britain today.

succesive governments have failed to curb gangs in inner cities like london... it is probably why the usual cockney accents have moved out leaving a mish mash of violent gangs to get on with it... the government know what is happening... most people understand that gangs are dangerous and need to be avoided to avoid confrontations with them... the government need to get a grip on this urgently..

Skin head football gangs really. One of ICF top blokes was a man called Cass Pennant he is black. Many of Millwalls top lads were black and Birmingham are called the Zulus which was White, Black and Asian British.

Viewing the old days through a rose tint is rubbish. You could leave the back door unlocked but many didn't. It was a different type of crime back then. That's all that has changed. Plenty of looting went on during the war.

There is plenty of community spirit were I live you have to put in to get out.

Ok, I'm not quite old enough to remember the 50s, 60s or 70s. However, I'm not sure that it is viewing things through rose tinted glasses. From my experiences, things have got lots worse over the past 20 years. Yes, there may have been more football violence back then. However, generally day to day, there weren't so many violent crimes. As a teenager, I remember hearing about two stabbing. Everyone was talking about it at school because it just didn't happen in the area. Now, it's so common place to come on this site and read about one, that you always don't feel any sense of shock any more.

6 or 7 years ago, a gang started up around my way. Random beatings became common place. Walking home from the pub suddenly became dodgier.

In my opinion, there's no doubt that it's getting worse and worse.
