Woman and child escape Downham house fire

A WOMAN and child managed to escape when a house went up in flames this morning.

Fire fighters were called out to the blaze in Northover, Downham, near the junction with Downham Way at 7.35am.

By the time they arrived, three people had already managed to escape.

The woman and child had both suffered from smoke inhalation, a fire brigade spokesman said.

Two crews managed to extinguish the fire by 8.50am.

Half of the ground floor was left damaged.
