DEPTFORD people braved the cold at the weekend of a snowy picnic protest against plans for Thames Water's super sewer project.

More than 40 people gathered at the green space off Coffey Road where part of the sewage tunnel's facilities could be built.

Liberty Mosse of the Don't Dump on Deptford's Heart campaign said, "We really wanted to shows Thames Water that we care about our Grade I listed church, St Joseph's primary school, the over looking flats and the local businesses. All of which put under threat from this ill thought out plan.

"We are calling on all concerned locals to contact Thames Water and explain their issues with their plans before the end of consultation on Friday."

Lewisham Council has objected to the plans already while Lewisham Deptford MP Dame Joan Ruddock has also voiced her opposition.

The site has also just been granted a lease to become a community garden.
