NEW protective clothing will be keeping Kent's firefighters safe.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has rolled out the kit across the county, known as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes fire tunics and over-trousers, flash hoods, helmets, boots and gloves.

Crews will also see the introduction of new breathing apparatus later this year which include an electronic monitoring system to improve communications with firefighters.

KFRS assistant director, Sean Bone-Knell, said: "This is an exciting year for KFRS and alongside the new firefighting kit, 21 new front line firefighting appliances will be ordered.

"We are also looking at other innovative measures which will further protect our frontline staff as we work to keep the county safe."
