A GROUP of teenagers who helped a pensioner while delivering News Shopper have been honoured by their school.

Doreen Shotton, of Hythe Avenue, Bexleyheath, fell over at her home when collecting post from the front door.

The 81-year-old laid on the floor until Jenny Farmer, 16, Blair Chandler, 15, Nick Rose, 16 and Nathan Scott, 15, came to her rescue.

The teens, who attend Bexleyheath Academy, will now receive a Jack Petchey Achievement Award after being nominated by their teachers.

The school's assistant vice principal, Stuart Kerner, said: "We are over the moon. We have given them the Jack Petchey award to show them how well they have done.

"If they hadn't been there who know's what would have happened."

Each student will receive a certificate, medal and £200 to spend in school at a prize giving in July at Orchard theatre in Dartford.

The awards scheme aims to enable schools, colleges and youth organisations to recognise the achievements of young people.
