GAS main replacement work in Swanley will continue until the end of April, but will not affect the weekly market.
The £200,000 project by Southern Gas Networks (SGN) is to replace old cast iron gas pipes in London Road, Birchwood Park Avenue and the junction of St Mary’s Road, London Road, Sycamore Drive and Bartholomew Way.
Work started in the shopping area this week, in order to cause minimal disruption.
Engineers will stop on Wednesdays and steel covers will be installed to allow the market to take place.
The only road restrictions are expected to be traffic lights at the roundabout on London Road and Bartholomew Way.
SGN spokesman Laura Varney said: “Our team have informed residents and traders of the work and we would ask that the public bear with us while we modernise the gas network system for the better.”
