A WOMAN accused of murdering a 21-year-old TV executive has admitted deceiving and betraying him.

Gagandip Singh, aged 21, of Langdale Crescent, Bexleyheath, died on February 26 after being set on fire in the boot of a car.

His body was found in a blue Mercedes C-class in Angerstein Lane, Blackheath, at around 2am.

Old Bailey jurors heard Mr Singh's fate originated from a relationship with one of the defendants charged with his murder, Mundill Mahil.

Mahil, aged 20, from Chatham, invited Gagandip Singh back to her home in Brighton six months after he attempted to rape her.

It is alleged Mundill Mahil, after being encouraged by her brother, Harinder Mahil, lured Mr Singh to her home under the pretence of wanting to talk to him so that the other two defendants could attack him.

Prosecutor Aftab Jafferjee asked Mahil: "You deceived him. It was a betrayal of him and his trust."

Mahil replied: "A betrayal of his trust, yes."

Mr Jafferjee then put it to Mahil that she was someone who lied when it suited her.

She denied this but when asked if luring Mr Singh to Brighton was a deception that suited her, she said: "Yes, I suppose so".

It is alleged Harinder Singh Shoker (referred to as Ravi), of Charlton Park Lane, Charlton, and Darren Peters, of Shooters Hill Road, Blackheath, both aged 20, attacked Mr Singh in Mahil's Brighton home, stuffed him in the boot and then drove him to Blackheath before setting him on fire.

Mr Jafferjee asked: "Whose fault according to you is it that you're in this predicament, in this mess right now?"

Mahil replied: "My brother."

Mr Jafferjee said: "Your brother for persuading you, Ravi for betraying you, the police for acting hastily?"

Mahil said "yes" to all of these.

Mr Jafferjee continued: "Are you at fault for the mess you are in? I say that you are party to killing, you say that is ridiculous.

"Are you in fault in anyway?"

Mahil replied: "No."

Later Mahil told jurors: "Gagan wasn't supposed to be assaulted. Gagan was not supposed to be seriously harmed."

When questioned further by Mr Jafferjee, Mahil told the court she felt betrayed by Ravi because he had gone beyond what had been discussed.

The trial continues.
